Poem about divorce - What if?

Poem about divorce - What if?

I wrote this poem at a time when someone I knew was going through a very difficult divorce. Heartbreak is one of the most raw forms of pain.
Though not physical, its effects can be brutal.

The inspiration behind the poem came from all the times in my life when I myself had gone through very dark phases. Pain evokes the same feelings in us all, whatever the cause.

Throughout the course of our lives, there will be situations which test us. Some tests will be easier to bear, some much more heavy to carry. Some will push us to our knees to the point where we may no longer want to be here.

Tests are never ever designed to break us, but to build us and to make us grow.

For anyone who needs this right now, I hope this poem gives you the comfort to know that your pain is valid and there is a purpose behind it.

God willing, there are better days ahead.

Enjoy x

They say you can’t hurry love,
You just have to wait.

Likewise,
You can’t hurry healing,
You just have to hurt.

Whilst pain is inevitable,
Suffering is optional.

Close your eyes.
Hold my hands.
Take a deep breath.

What if the pain you feel today,
is the strength you’ll have tomorrow?

Would it still be the same?

What if the pain you feel today,
is the implantation of unborn wisdoms to come?

For wisdom is nothing more than healed pain.

Tell me.

Would it still be the same?

What if the pain you feel today,
Is the cracking of the shell,
Which limits your understanding?

Would it still be the same?

Trust and believe,
That the pain you feel today,
Will be the strength which
You have tomorrow.
